2026 Archaeology Field School

Tse’k’wa Heritage Society has partnered with University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) to offer our third archaeology field school at Tse’k’wa National Historic Site from May 11 – June 22, 2026.

Tse’k’wa is an exceptional archaeological site with deep cultural and spiritual significance for the Dane-zaa people, dating back more than 12,500 years. The UNBC Field School reflects this complex history by combining modern archaeological practices with traditional Dane-zaa teachings. Indigenous and non-Indigenous students worked together to complete six weeks of hands-on learning at the site, including field survey, testing, excavation, and community outreach. The field school is part of a five-year research collaboration with Dr. Farid Rahemtulla (UNBC) and Dr. Mike Richards from Simon Fraser University (SFU).

We are currently accepting applications for local Indigenous learners to participate in field school. To learn more about the program and to apply, visit 2026 UNBC Archaeology Field School.
