Tse’k’wa National Historic Site is pleased to welcome Adrienne Greyeyes as our summer 2025 Artist in Residence. Adrienne will be combining teachings from Dane-zaa and neyihaw elders to develop her hide making skills at kwâ-zâa watsáádzé (old camp) from May 12-23 and July 7-18. The completed hides will be used for her printmaking practice.
Adrienne is nehiyaw from the Bigstone Cree Nation; she was born and raised on Dane-zaa territory in Fort St John. She has a Bachelors of Fine Arts from Emily Carr University and practices both traditional and contemporary art forms. Adrienne has developed her artistic practice over the last ten years, learning from elders and knowledge holders.
“I will be utilizing the completed hides within my printmaking practice. My linocut prints share stories and memories of how this land has influenced my identity. My intent is to highlight the reciprocal relationship that we have with the land we grew on through using hides that were grown on the same territory that my body has also been nourished from. Thus acknowledging that our relationship is ever changing and challenged due to colonial lifestyle impositions.”
The summer 2025 Artist in Residence position is supported by the Canadian Council for the Arts. The position is part of a multi-month opportunity during which Adrienne hopes to expand her artistic skills and learn to complete a hide on her own. During her time at Tse’k’wa, she will hold “open studio” hours when the public can view and learn about her work; we invite you to join us between 11am -12pm on May 14, 15, 21, and 22nd and July 7,9, 10, 14, 16, & 17 to meet Adrienne and learn more!
